Boilers and turbines used for heat and power generation are highly sensitive to corrosion, deposits, and encrustation caused by salts and particles dissolved in water. To extend the service life of the plants and ensure security of supply, it is important to remove these substances from the water.

System for boiler feed water according to VGB 2 x 5m³/h and 2 x 16m³/h
In 2019 and 2020, Spiegl GmbH supplied a boiler feed water treatment system in accordance with VGB for a turbine boiler in a biomass cogeneration plant near Hanover, as well as a condensate treatment system with a regenerable mixed bed in hot water operation.
Problem
Supplying turbine boilers with feed water in accordance with VGB for raw water with a high silicate value of over 22 mg/l.
The requirement was to minimize wastewater costs, as municipal water is used. (A system yield of over 90% was achieved.)
The condensate to be treated came from a refinery that is supplied with steam from the power plant. The condensate contained oil.
Solution
Boiler feed water treatment with softening, 2-stage RO, CDI, and mixed beds as polishers.

The condensate treatment is designed for hot water operation and consists of various filters and a regenerable mixed bed.
System for boiler feed water according to VGB 1.5 m³/h
In 2022, Spiegl GmbH delivered a boiler feed water treatment system in accordance with VGB for a turbine boiler at a sewage sludge incineration plant in Bavaria.
Problem
Supplying turbine boilers with boiler feed water in accordance with VGB standards despite fluctuating raw water quality.
The customer wanted a completely pre-assembled frame system as a plug-and-play variant.
Solution
Boiler feed water treatment with softening, RO, CDI, and mixed beds as polishers. S7 1200 control system.
Completely pre-assembled on a frame and tested, commissioned, and trial run at the factory.
